Dr. Braunstein teaches health informatics and offered the first Mass Open Online Course (MOOC) in the field. He is
involved in research and community outreach aimed at the wider and deeper adoption of health information
technology for clinical decision support and healthcare process mining.
He received a BS from MIT in 1969, an MD from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 1974, and
completed an internal medicine internship at Washington University in 1975. From 1975 through 1978 he was an
Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Pharmacy at MUSC.
He co-founded Patient Care Technologies, a 1993 graduate of Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development
Center, and a 1998 Inc. 500 company acquired by MEDITECH in 2007. NDC acquired his first company in 1978 and
he ran it for them before becoming NDC’s President and COO in 1987.
