Dr. Tom Stevenson
Director of Medical Informatics, MiHIN
Dr. Tom Stevenson (Doc Tom) has been a long time planner, innovator and advocate for health information technology and health information exchange, however, he began his professional career as a rural family physician in West Michigan.
Shortly after graduating medical school he became involved in HIT, researching, strategizing and promoting HIT through his professional organizations. While still in practice, he pursued post graduate training in Health Policy and Medical Informatics.
Eventually leaving full time practice (he still teaches family medicine residents in a community clinic) he has been employed over the last 14 years by an EHR vendor, in Academic Medicine and as a Chief Medical Officer for an HIE vendor prior to joining MiHIN as Director of Medical Informatics.
Tom also helped to create the State of Michigan HIT Commission and served as the initial chairman. A rather unique background includes playing the trumpet in both the Michigan and Michigan State marching bands, and interests include fishing, hunting, carpentry and tending his orchard.
